Ng Chor Guan is a music composer and sound designer work across theatre, dance, film, concert music and new media projects. His works integrate experimental approaches to both classical and electronic composition and have been presented at numerous festivals internationally.

In 2008-2009 he was nominated the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards Most Promising Artist. His music for films have been awarded the Grand Prizes at the Clermont-Ferrond Short Film Festival in France and the Artfilm Fest in the Slovak Republic. In 2012, his work was nominated for a Best Musical Composition at the 1st Selangor Youth Awards and in 2011 he received the German Language Scholarship from the Goethe Institute.

HANDS Percussion

Malaysia’s renowned percussion ensemble has been creating a ripple in the music scene in Kuala Lumpur since 1997 with its ground breaking and innovative performances. HAND’s performances are highly regarded and admired as they endeavor to preserve their cultural heritage while introducing new dimensions to theatrical drumming by venturing into contemporary percussion music and exploring different cultures.

The team has produced and performed extensively in the arts scene in Malaysia as well as at many corporate events. In the past few years HANDS has been invited to perform overseas and have participated in numerous major international art festivals including the Dijon International Folkloriada Competition in 2009 and the Oz Asia Festival in Adelaide in 2010.

Rhythm in Bronze

Rhythm in Bronze is a concert and theatre gamelan ensemble which is dedicated to the performance of new music for the Malaysian gamelan and began as an all women gamelan group in 1997 by composer and ethnomusicologist Sunetra Fernando. It continues to make waves by pioneering and spearheading totally new dimensions of gamelan performances.

Rhythm in Bronze has brought the gamelan to the contemporary concert stage and developed a new audience for its music with diverse creative collaborations: between the ensemble and Malay,Javanese and Balinese gamelan, Carnatic music, Chinese drumming and percussion, Malay and Sufi poetry. It has release a CD called Rhythm in Bronze – New Music for the Malaysian Gamelan and recently collaborated with Kevin Field, Associate Conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and Roland Peelman of The Song Company from Australia.

The group’s latest performance, MaYa: Gong Illusions, received the “Best Production Value” award at the 9th BOH Cameronian Arts Award 2012.

Audio artists Euseng Seto, aka flica, began his music carrier in 2007. His music mixes ambient electonica with melodic soundscapes. In his his debut album Windwane & Window received an overwhelming response in Japan, which resulted in flica’s releasing new albums under Tokyo-based indie label Schole. His third album Sophomore delves into a darker and more emotional ambient sound.

He has collaborated with visual artist Fairuz Sulaiman and as a graphic designer by trade, is a very audio-visual person himself and continues to be inspired by the synchronisation of sound and sight.

Fariz Hanapiah

Fariz Hanapiah is a motion graphics designer based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. He has run a studio called Motiofixo! for the past 3 years where he is the Creative Director. He has worked on numerous commercial projects ranging from TV commercials to channel brand Ids and his clients include Petronas, Disney, 8TV, Channel V, Honda, Celcom and many more.

Along side his work as a commerical designer he has worked on numerous creative and artistic projects including onedotzero’s ‘Re-Imagining The City’ project with UK based artists D-Fuse which was screened in both KL and London. He was also recently chosen by the British Council Malaysia as a finalist of the Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards and spent several weeks stint in the UK.

Heritage Orchestra

Heritage Orchestra is the orchestra that rocks out arenas, messes with other peoples music, and keeps orchestral tradition in the cellar. Since 2004 this renegade ensemble has written it’s own music, veered wildly between genres, and collaborated with a diverse and high profile array of artists like Dizzee Rascal, UNKLE, Scanner, Bryce & Aaron Dessner and Aphex Twin.

They always embrace sound, visual, and adaptive music technology in ways that make other orchestras recoil in fear, and still they don’t play any classical repertoire.

Tim Cowie

Tim Cowie is an audio visual artist, specialising in documentary film making, motion graphics, electronic sound design and live multi-screen audio visual performance. He is a longterm collaborator at The Light Surgeons and was a full time artist in their east London studio up until December 2012, when he relocated to New York. During this time he worked on a wide range of projects from installations for national museums to award winning short films.

Over this period he has become a major collaborating artist on many of their live AV performances. He continues to work on Light Surgeon’s projects as well as develop his own music and audio visual art. Tim also releases electronic music under the name Audio Dependent and is part of the duo Infinite Particles.

Christopher Thomas Allen

Christopher Thomas Allen is a pioneering media artist and filmmaker from London. He is the remaining founder and director of the multi-media group The Light Surgeons, a company he established after studying Media Design at Portsmouth University in 1994. His work crosses a diverse range of different media; from his back ground in graphic design and photography he has gone on to direct and produce many award winning short films and several major installation projects in national museums.

His work as a performing artist has grown from the many different experimental audio visual collaborations initiated through his company The Light Surgeons. These ground-breaking multimedia performances have toured to many festivals and have helped to define the practice of live cinema internationally.

Fauzi Yusoff

Fauzi Yusoff is a visual artist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With a background in Digital Media from MultiMedia University, (MMU) Cyberjaya, his work explores the aesthetic ties between the audio visual and new media technology.

Since 2008, he has founded Efozy, a new media studio and has built up an impressive list of projects and collaborators, including Adobe, IdN, onedotzero, D-Fuse, The Light Surgeons, The Chemical Brothers, Pendulum, Benny Bennassi, Boysnoize, Pitbull, Above & Beyond, Godskitchen, British Council Malaysia, Canon, Yahoo, Monoloque and many more.
